Streetart: Innen-außer-Sicht

Sydney ist ein bisschen wie Berlin: auch eine Stadt mit vielen, ganz unterschiedlichen Stadtteilen. 'Slices of Sydney' (schön gestaltetes Heft!) gibt einen tollen Eindruck über die Stadt aus Dörfern/city of villages. Nicht enthalten (keine Ahnung warum) ist allerdings der Stadtteil Balmain, wo ich gestern war. Die Hauptstraße Darling Street ist eine quirlige Mischung aus kleinen Restaurants, Pubs, newsagents, Galerien, Boutiquen und den schmalen terraces houses. Nett. www.urbanwalkabout.com/balmain/

Und auffällig: das Streetart Projekt auf - jeden Tag ein bisschen schlauer - Kästen für Ampelanlagen, ein in 2010 gestarteter Wettbewerb der Landesregierung (Insight Out of Sight) zur Städteverschönerung. Dabei soll die Kunst auf den Kästen den jeweiligen Charakter der Gegend widerspiegeln. Schöne, bunte Idee.

Insight Out of Sight is a yearly competition offering canvas space on local traffic signal boxes. Traffic signal boxes are the dull grey boxes that exist at every traffic light. Judges look for entries that delight, entertain and provoke thought. They are particularly interested in works that evoke a sense of spirit and place for the area. A short history of each site was available to artists in the Box Locator document and entrants are encouraged to conduct their own research about the box site they choose. Traffic signal boxes are an ideal size to become community art canvasses, and are an approachable scale for both new and long practising artists.
